8/4/2015  · Endoskeletons take several different shapes, giving unique advantages to living creatures. Some derive from thick but flexible cartilage, while others form from hard bones. Some skeletons, like those in humans and sharks, contain a combination of bones and cartilage, making creatures adept for life in particular environments.


endoskeleton A supporting framework that lies entirely within the body of an animal, such as the bony skeleton of vertebrates or the spicules of a sponge. The function of an endoskeleton is to support the body and in vertebrates it also protects the organs and provides a system of levers on which the muscles can act to produce movement.


Eg: those found in crabs, insects, spiders etc. Endoskeleton- a skeleton found inside the body. Eg: those found in mammals, birds, reptiles etc. We will deal with the endoskeleton in more detail, looking at the human skeleton as an example. The skeleton has a number of functions.


Eg -Shells of snails and chitinous plates of insects. Scales, feathers, hair, claws hoofs, nails and horns in vertebrates. ENDOSKELETON :-It includes hard parts present inside the body. Cartilages and bones are examples of endoskeleton in vertebrates. Some invertebrates such as corals and echinoderms, also have endoskeleton .


The endoskeleton protects the delicate body parts. 3. Muscle attachment: ADVERTISEMENTS: The endoskeleton parts provide attachment for large muscles. 4. Movement: Due to the contractions of the muscles, the bones or parts of the bones are able to change their positions. Thus bones help in bringing about movements also.
